We celebrate the life of Dr. John Lifaite Bayardelle, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, physician, scholar, and cultural cornerstone of our family. He departed this life peacefully on May 30, 2025, at 3:45 a.m., leaving behind a legacy rich in wisdom, pride, and unforgettable presence.

Born in Cap-Haïtien, Haiti, to Anastasia Longchamps and Judge Bayard Bayardelle, the former Judge and Mayor of the Town of Ferrier, John’s story began with both privilege and adversity. After losing his mother at the tender age of nine, he was raised by his loving older sister, Altergrace, who became a formative figure in his life. His early years instilled in him the discipline, resilience, and ambition that would characterize the rest of his journey.

At 19, John moved to The Bahamas, before relocating to the United States at age 24 (1966). His educational path began at Baruch Business College, continued at Lehman College, and led him into a career on Wall Street. Ultimately, his passion for people and healing took him to the Universidad Central del Este in San Pedro de Macorís, Dominican Republic, where he earned his medical degree in 1993.

Dr. Bayardelle practiced medicine and taught in Santo Domingo, traveling frequently between the Dominican Republic and the United States throughout his career. This passion for teaching and guiding others remained a cornerstone of his life.

A true polyglot, Dr. Bayardelle spoke English, French, Spanish, Creole, and Latin. He studied Latin while exploring the priesthood during his time in the Bahamas—a testament to his lifelong thirst for knowledge. He was deeply cultured and profoundly aware of the value of history, heritage, and intellectual legacy. He was actively working on the family tree, always reminding us that to understand who we are, we must know where we come from.

He married the love of his life, Claudie Bayardelle, on June 6, 1969, and together they shared over five decades of partnership. He was the father of five children, and the proud grandfather to six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Though stern at times, he was fiercely protective, nurturing independence, strength, and excellence in his children. He believed in quality over quantity, demanded that we always bring our best to the table, and insisted on living with class, respect, and honor.

He lived with great pride in Black excellence and encouraged all his children to pursue higher education. He frequently reminded us that status mattered, and that being a top competitor in life wasn’t just about achievement, it was about integrity, discipline, and a relentless pursuit of self-improvement. He stressed the importance of being respected, not just liked, and placed high value on making wise, principled decisions, especially in relationships, where he became a trusted advisor for many young adults within the family and community.

But perhaps one of the most vibrant and unforgettable parts of Dr. John Bayardelle’s personality was his uninhibited love for dance. Whether it was merengue, bachata, salsa, kompa, or his personal specialty, the cha-cha-cha, he danced with a joy that was nothing short of contagious. He was a natural showman on the dance floor, and wherever he went, he was the life of the party. To watch him dance was to witness a celebration of life itself. His rhythm, laughter, and energy could instantly light up a room, drawing everyone into the moment with him. You couldn’t help but smile, laugh, and feel alive in his presence. Dr. Bayardelle was more than a man of achievements, he was a man of depth, joy, and authenticity. His memory will live on in the values he instilled, the wisdom he shared, the music he loved, and the lives he shaped.

Rest well, Dr. Bayardelle. You ran your race with dignity, and your legacy will stand the test of time.
